Akerson: A completely remote team comes with many benefits, the first of which is we can pull talent from anywhere in the country, and when jobs are posted, our pool of qualified applicants is always overflowing. Another benefit is that worktime is maximized – no commute means more productive working time. Employees LOVE the flexibility of scheduling their working hours around what works best for them and their family. We have a couple of weekly meetings, but otherwise employees are free to work whenever they want. This can mean late nights or early mornings for moms with very small children, but the benefit is truly work-life balance. The biggest benefit is that employees get to be part of a company whose mission they believe in, without worrying that they’re missing out on their children’s lives.
You know, before I started cloth diapering I was always baffled by the fervor of the cloth diapering people because OH MY LANDS, could they ever go on and on and on about cloth diapers. I mean, I get the landfill thing and all that, but the excitement seemed to go deeper than that typical smugness people get from their reusable grocery bags and their hybrids and their compost piles. These people seemed genuinely jazzed about diapers.
A recent Gallup poll revealed more stay-at-home moms report experiencing sadness or anger in their day than moms who work outside of the home. Of the 60,000 women surveyed, the poll included women with no children, working moms and stay-at-home moms who are or who are not looking for work "to distinguish between those who may not be employed because of circumstance rather than by choice."
1) As a public school teacher, each year of teaching accrues toward a retirement pension that pays Mrs. Hwang from retirement to the end of her life. Let’s assume her pension does not inflate once retirement commences (this is ine line with Gov Christie's decision to freeze teacher and administrator pensions for decades to come). If Mrs. Hwang is 38 and chose to work to age 65+, she can accrue a lifetime pension that I calculate pays her at least $40,000/year (after tax) from 2039 (age 65) to the end of her life. This is a conservativeestimate based upon projected income levels and pension accrual. The value of this estimated pension from age 65 to age 92 is $1,080,000 in 2039 dollars, or $554,000 in 2012 dollars.
eBay, Amazon, and ETSy are great sites for making some money online. There are multiple ways to go about using these sites to make money, and this blog post won’t be able to cover them. But to get you started with some ideas, you can look for products that are being sold locally near you or in bulk somewhere online, then sell these individually on Amazon or eBay for profit.
Did I find this article useful? Yes, yes and a resounding yes!!! I happen to have a friend from Florida who has been bugging me about an online income opportunity because she knows I am a freelancer who earns through online jobs. But since we live worlds apart, I just didn’t know how to help her. I am definitely sharing this to her and I am checking some of the things listed here too for myself. Thanks Alexa!
CashCrate is an online platform where you can start earning money by completing offers, taking surveys, watching videos, and shopping online using their site. I’ve played around on the site a little bit, and you’ll want to make sure that you read all of the fine print on each and every offer. Many offers require an email address, which means you’ll receive offers from them and other marketers. Tasks pay out anywhere from a few cents to $30.00 or more, and you’ll receive $1 for signing up for an account. Payments are made via check or PayPal.
I also have the never-ending piles of laundry, the shelves that always need dusting, the dishes that just keep on getting dirty, and so on. Of course, these are things all families deal with, but when you work at home, those things tug at you all day. I’m part of the mess and contributing to it, while at the same time being driven crazy by it. Since work and kids take priority, the house gets put on the back burner — and then sometimes it gets forgotten and boils over and sets off the fire alarm. *sigh*
Check out your favourite bookstore online to see books available on starting a home based business in the area of your interest, or for a general overview, read The Entrepreneurial Mom's Guide to Running Your Own Business Yummy Mummy Kathryn Bechthold. Keep in mind that unless your work can be completed solely during naptime and after bedtime (including client calls or visits), you may still require childcare on occasion.
