Many dads are already in the world of blogging; some blog about their fathering experiences, others blog about work-related issues, and still others blog primarily as a self-marketing effort. But several stay-at-home dads I know blog for a living, or at least make money in a respectable "second job." If you hope to monetize your blog, you need to provide content that is well written and engaging to readers. After all, if you can't get page views, you can't generally make money. To maximize your readership, focus your writing to a specific audience that is looking for help or advice.
Once upon a time, customer service representatives worked in massive call centers in the middle of the Arizona desert ⏤ or overseas. And while many still do, times have changed. Today there are almost 2.75 million reps handling complaints, processing orders, a providing product information around the country and, not only is the number growing, but many are now working from home. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 500,000 customer service reps work part-time. While hardly glamorous, and often requiring you to interact with crappy people on the other end of the line, the positions are often entry-level, provide training, and come with steady hours. The biggest drawback is that a lot of customer service reps work on a full-time shift schedule, so while you will be home, you could be tied down. 

Jennifer and Steve made the decision a couple of years ago that Jenn would work as a professional for a local company and Steve would be the full-time, caregiving stay-at-home dad. But while Steve loves this opportunity to raise their two young children, he misses a little of the independence he had before the children came. Steve has been checking online for jobs that he could do from home to earn a little extra money but finds himself confused by many of the at-home opportunities for the additional income.
Along the lines of writing for the content mill in #21, the difference is that you go must go to online job portals such as freelancer.com, elance.com and such then specifically bid on writing jobs. Many of the jobs are specifically to write articles for websites. There is a huge demand for such content and as long as you are a competent writer (i.e. you speak and write fluent English and your level of writing is good enough where you can actually produce a good article about any topic given), you can make a decent part time living as a freelance article writer. If you build up a list of clients, you can even turn this into a FULL time job as well.
So, just because a dad doesn’t go into an office doesn’t mean he isn’t working. Several dads I know have arrangements with their company so they can be on calls before, during, and after their children’s school schedules. Other dads I’ve spoken with engage in virtual work that is project-based so they can work at odd hours that don’t conflict with school schedules. It’s a juggling act, but they make it work.

Whoever said that staying at home to look after children and the home was easy? Anyone who has experienced taking on the primary responsibility of caring for children knows it’s more than a full-time job. Handling school obligations and social schedules on top of the domestic responsibilities of managing a household is a workload that is never done, and I don’t know anyone who has successfully balanced both. Anyone who believes that SAHDs are lazy must never have been in in a stay-at-home position themselves.
This is a great list! Some of these I have never thought of for the stay at home moms (and stay at home dads 😉 ) out there. I have done a lot of research on different ways to make some income and I am always amazed at the ideas I still routinely find. You mentioned working for Amazon. I know Amazon has a platform that offers some micro jobs you can do as well. They pay small amounts but if you do a lot they can add up! I also like Uber! But only for driving during the day. I wouldn’t suggest driving for Uber at night.

While we are strongly considering some form of day care to socialize our child later in life, we want to raise our son at home for at least the first two years of his life. We just had to figure out how to make a stay-at-home parent work for us financially.

What It Is: Students in countries including Japan, Korea, France and Germany are looking for English speakers to practice with. Educated women get to have their babies and their jobs. Their minivans and their tenure tracks. Their 401Ks and their families. Their cakes. All the cakes! And eating them proudly with their paychecks.
Have you ever heard of an actuary? In the past, it was used to describe a person who analyzes statistics in order to calculate risks and premiums for insurance companies. However, the job title has expanded to include many more industries that can benefit from data mining and economic forecasting. If you have a degree in mathematics, finance or statistics, look into getting your license through Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) or Society of Actuaries (SOA).
Fast-forward 15 years, and I’ve had at least seven work-from-home jobs, usually more than one at time. It’s been great for the most part. I do get the best of all worlds — getting to make my own schedule, being able to be with my kids during the day, keeping my foot in the door professionally, and contributing to the household income. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to find work I can do from home all these years.
How to Get It: Customer service is the biggest work-at-home field, with companies including Spiegel, Hilton, Best Western, HSN, 1-800-FLOWERS and many others using at-home reps. Fill out an application with staffing companies such as Arise, Alpine Access, VIPdesk, LiveOps, and Convergys, all of which vet the companies who are hiring through them. If you need benefits, search through a staffing company that will hire you as an employee (Alpine Access, VIPdesk and Convergys do this) rather than an independent contractor. If you're a contractor, you may be asked to pay a small fee (between $15 and $35) for a background check. While a fee can be a sign of a scam, independent contractors are responsible for their own expenses.

At-home dads have a lot in common with at-home moms, but they are not moms. Men have different interests and styles of communication. Men parent differently. There is something that men gain from fellowship with other men that would be difficult to find in a mom’s group. In previous roles, an at-home dad found male friends through work or school. But at-home dads are typically much more isolated as noted above. The National At-Home Dad Network, our local at-home dad groups, annual convention and discussion forums offer a place for them to connect with new friends who are in the same situation.

Identity – At-home dads struggle with their identity as men. Society still believes that childcare and household chores are “a woman’s work” so at-home dads often can feel unsure of their manliness. This is further complicated by friends, family and even their own spouses not supporting their decision to be at-home dads. For some at-home dads, this identity struggle is too great and the family suffers from a man who becomes depressed and frustrated about his perceived failings to “be a man” or he returns to work. Please, can you let me know what your great online job is? I have been combing the internet for a legitimate job now for quite a while and I come up empty-handed most of the time. I am a fast typist (62 WPM), but have found that you need to either know how to translate or transcribe.
