I am currently a stay at home Mom and have been searching for almost two years for the right position. I have found a couple positions with Flexjobs but none have offered a “steady income”. I am searching for a position that would allow flexible work hours but be guaranteed. I am looking for something that would utilize my 10 years of experienced in Human Resources field, customer service, data entry, payroll, employee benefits etc.
Do you already have a job that you LOVE? Then bring it home by submitting a telecommuting, flextime, or job sharing proposal (and don't assume your employer will say no until you’ve asked). Start by checking your company’s telecommuting policy, if there's nothing in the manual, do your research, and write up a flex time or work-at-home proposal. Be sure to include all of the benefits to the company – including the cost to recruit and hire a new employee to replace you if you decide to quit.
Another task that eats up time for businesses? Scheduling appointments, booking flights, responding to tiny emails, and making spreadsheets. Become a virtual assistant to offer online administrative support to entrepreneurs who are strapped for time. Working as a virtual assistant can encompass a myriad of tasks that almost anyone with a knack for Google, Kayak, and Excel can do.

What It Is: Students in countries including Japan, Korea, France and Germany are looking for English speakers to practice with. Sessions focus on things like making professional small talk or running a meeting (trainers are provided with specifics on how to teach each topic, and are also trained themselves for two days before starting the job). Lessons take place either over the phone or on a live Internet video service like Skype—sometimes at night, because you're working with students in different time zones. You need to commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week at consistent times, and can work as many as 35 hours.

Ok, so dads can stay home with kids — but surely they can’t take on everything that a woman can, right? Not so fast. In addition to his role as dad, which involved school lunches, homework, all pick-ups and drop-offs and after-school activities, stay-at-home dad Ron takes on the majority of household responsibilities as well. “Jon has no problem doing house work,” Jen says. “He admits he likes doing it!”

“Keep your husband involved, and don’t leave him out. It’s so easy to make a personal unit with just you and your kid, especially because you’re the mom and they want you more — especially if they’re a breastfed baby — they only want the mom. You have to remember your husband made her too. You’re still married, he’s still your best friend and partner.”
Even though most people have access to a high quality camera through their smart phones, photographers are still very much in demand. Professional photographers are required for special occasions (weddings, portraits, maternity) and are compensated well for their services. Taking stock photos offers another opportunity for a photographer to earn money. Stock photos are in constant need by websites, blogs and online publications.

Soon after the column appeared I got a call from the Boston ABC TV affiliate WCVB TV “The Boston Channel.”  They wanted to get a local angle on dads returning to work. One at-home dad, David Hubbard from Stow, MA had a particularly interesting story because his experience disclosing his at-home dad status on his resume yielded positive reactions instead of the negative results reported by the other dads. Dave is back at work at in the same position at the same company he left before he began his career break in 2004. He’s Director of Government Contracts for DSD Laboratories. Following is his “Relaunch Success Story"
Wow thank you so much for this article, I am a single father with 3 under 4 and I’ve been trying to find something for months along the lines of what you have posted here I truly understand the hardship single mothers in general face because I myself am going through that hardship right now. I think you may have just helped better mine and my children’s lives with this and I am eternally greatful.
Great article! I’m doing direct selling at the moment and absolutely loving it! Never thought it would be something I would get into but when you have a strong desire to stay at home with your child everyday but still need to earn money you will give anything a go right 🙂 and I’m so glad I did. The work involved itself could not be easier, I run my business all from my phone. And I also love the personal development you gain from an industry like this, you learn so much about yourself more than you could from any job working for someone else in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong it is hard work, you have to put a lot in to be successful, but when you are putting all that time and effort into yourself and creating success for YOU rather than an employer / boss the results are so rewarding!! If anyone is looking into getting on board something similar I am happy to pass on some info 🙂 Bec.

When you have the degree, knowledge, and experience in developing software, you can earn up to $160,000 without having to leave your kids at home. Software development can help single-dads make enough money to raise their kids without having to face any financial issue. Your job may require you to design, develop, and run software programs, manage a team of software engineers, oversee related projects, debug software, and troubleshoot technical issues.
You can make money as an affiliate marketer, by promoting products that you love. When you sign up as an affiliate for a company, you’ll receive a commission for each sale you help make happen. Alex is half of the husband-wife team who started a blog called Avocadu and earned more than $100,000 in their first year of blogging. Within three years, they were making more than $100,000 per month!
It's one chunk of the day when you can generally expect to be able to plug away without interruption (at least not from your child). Whether your kid sleeps for one hour or three, use this time to finish assignments that require your complete focus and concentration, says Erin O'Donnell, a mom of two and freelance writer and editor in Milwaukee, who often schedules work-related phone calls during her 20-month-old Jonas's naps. If for some reason he isn't tired, they have quiet time instead: O'Donnell puts him in his crib with books and closes the door. "I can usually get in 20 minutes of work before he grows restless," she says. If Jonas wakes up while she's on a work call and begins crying, O'Donnell has trained herself to resist hanging up and rushing right in to check on him. "It hurts a little bit to listen to him," she says. "But it won't kill me -- or him." Plus, she believes it's important for him to learn how to soothe himself.
One of the most significant social trends in the last 20 years has been the rise in the number of SAHDs. In the United States, this number has reached 1.9 million and accounts for 16% of the stay-at-home parent population, according to 2015 U.S. Census data. Our culture continues to shift away from the rigid gender roles of past generations, which is made evident by women expecting more involvement from dads — and dads stepping up to the challenge by willingly taking on the primary nurturing role in their children’s life.
While direct sales does require some upfront cash layout for products, a gifted saleswoman can generate a good income with these programs. An added benefit is the social aspect of these businesses. They can provide a stay-at-home mom with some much-needed adult conversation and socializing. If you are a born networker and can sell, this is a perfect stay-at-home job for you. Don't know what to sell? Directsalesmoms.com is a great place to start your search for the perfect home business.

Laura recounts how, in going out with her girlfriends, many of whom were stay-at-home moms, she was in the unique position to hear the gripes of wives talking about their husbands not coming home at night on time — and realize that their complaints were the same as her own husband’s. “Since I was friends with SAHMs, I listened and learned a lot about their frustrations which turned out to be about the same as Ron’s,” she remembers.
The FlexJobs database lists thousands of work-at-home jobs that offer stay-at-home moms the ability to work comfortably from a home office. I am a 36 year old single mom of a 5 year old son I have custody of and 2 daughters who are 13 and 11 that I get most weekends. I live with and care for my disabled mother in a wheelchair, and have since 2011, since I care for her and my son it’s very hard to get a job outside the home. My income is very limited and I have got scammed a lot of times on the WAH jobs that charge you a fee and don’t really work. If anyone can give me info on REAL and legitimate home jobs that do not charge a fee please email me info and help me out. cindy0579@yahoo.com
Skills Required: You’ll need to be able to find and transport your bargains back to your home base. You need the tools and knowledge to be able to fix them up and improve them. You’ll also need a way to sell them, so you don’t let your inventory take over your home. Make sure you have a way to take decent photographs, so people can see what they’re buying.
So where does that leave a dad eager to improve his work-life balance or a stay-at-home parent wanting to make a little extra cash on the side? Not totally out of luck, it turns out. We took a look through the online job boards to see what kind of remote jobs were both prevalent and required the little experience and/or training to get started ⏤ actual jobs that don’t involve freelancing, selling old stuff, or starting your own business from home. There were a number of categories that stood out, and while they may not be positions you’d want to build a career around or do forever, they are relatively easy to get, pay decent wages (especially if your partner is still working full time), and don’t require that you get certified to teach Tae Bo or open a Cross Fit gym in your basement. Here are five to look for:

While working at home may not allow you to stay in your prior profession, it can allow you to keep your business skills fresh while you take a break from your regular job. The skills you learn while working at home, coupled with the years of experience, could be seen as justification for higher pay if you choose to return to your previous career down the road.

Great list Whitney! Another great option is Amazon FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) There are apps (like Profit Bandit) that will allow you to scan the barcodes of clearance items at local stores and know instantly if the item can be sold for a profit on Amazon. The beauty of FBA is you simply ship all of the items at once to Amazon and they handle picking, packing and shipping your items when they sell so you can get back to being a mom 🙂 I know three people that make a legitimate six-figure income doing this from home.

If a work-at-home mom is taking five minutes here and five minutes there to manage children or domestic tasks, it adds up. Our productivity is bound to take a plunge. The consequence of not getting women fully out of the home is that we’re still tethered to antiquated traditions and gender roles that keep us from being as professionally valuable as possible. Women are then faced with the reality that their decreased productivity could lead to less opportunities for advancement, and in turn, less money earned over a lifetime.
Whoever said money can’t buy friendship has never heard of Rent a Friend! I’m not even kidding. You go to their website and offer your friendship for $10 to $50 per hour. You set your own price and what types of activities you’re available for! The website clearly states that it is NOT a dating site, but a service offering companionship; someone to show you around an unfamiliar town, for example.

Another drag of the work-at-home mom daily grind, is social and professional isolation. For an introvert like me, I think, I could care less about interacting with humans face-to-face all day. The less humans, the better. However, I know the corporate dance. I used to do it. There is a certain amount of small talk that goes a long way towards staying in good standing with management and securing one’s future. I also know how humans work — we all feed off of some level of engagement and connection with one another. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t live in communities or ever get lonely.

Her other kid-centric tips: Set aside a few cool toys that your kids can play with, or arrange playdates or special movie viewings only during "Mommy's work time." If your children have something to look forward to, they'll be less likely to interrupt you. You can also try setting up an activity center in your home office so kids feel as if they have their own designated place to do projects while you catch up on e-mails. If their interest in that fails, create a "boredom bowl," suggests Durst.

With these options, you file your paperwork for a Limited Liability Company (LLC) or an Employee Identification Number (EIN), and you contract with larger companies to provide customer service via the phone. The advantages of this arrangement are you’re given extensive training, and you don’t have to find your own clients. The disadvantages of these options are you have less control over how you run your business, and your earning potential can be limited since you're not negotiating your own rates.

Another way to get affordable child care: Pool your resources with several other working moms and hire one babysitter to watch all your children at the same time. Even without the sitter, you can get together with other WAHMs and let the kids play while you all work. "I found that if a child has a playdate, he or she is often amused long enough to allow you to do work that doesn't require extreme quiet," says freelance writer Melissa Dutton, of Columbus, Ohio, who also sometimes swapped child care for her two kids with another working mom a few hours a week. "I knew that she worked from home, too, so I offered to take her kid first, and it grew from there."

It is usually about using your common sense and spotting what does not look natural. Legitimate online job opportunities are definitely available, but you may have to search hard for them. In 2016, only 19 percent of men did housework — such as cleaning or doing laundry — compared to 49 percent of women, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Additionally, 68 percent of women did food preparation and/or cleanup compared to 42 percent of men. This doesn’t even include the invisible mental load and emotional labor women are bogged down with daily:  keeping track of doctor appointments, hiring out to fix things in the home, playdate schedules, family vacation planning, etc.

Most work-at-home moms don't start out with a full-time telecommuting position right away. The work-at-home lifestyle is usually something you build over time. In fact, you may need to build up your savings first. Plan to start small. If you're moving from the office to telecommuting, maybe try just a couple days a week at first to see how it works for you and your employer. If you're building a business, that takes time.
