If you’ve determined that you need full-time child care, a caregiver in your home (since that is where you are) is probably the best option if your children are not in school yet. A nanny will keep young kids from interrupting your work and, in many circumstances, can drive children to activities or pick them up from school. Hiring a full-time child care provider eliminates the need to scramble for childcare solutions during school holidays and when your child is sick. Most nannies do not live with families but a live-in nanny or an au pair is an option if you take business trips frequently or have to work outside the home at night.
For this section, I’m stepping back from the keys with my commentary. I love all this advice and found it all incredibly insightful, but as you read through it, try to consider what it means to you. Do these women sound like you? Do you think you could manage the complications for the beautiful payout of more time with your kids? Give yourself a moment for some self-reflection.
I created my own niche after my divorce last year by learning Google Adwords and now handle my own accounts and do contract work for a local digital marketing agency. I set up accounts and rehab / optimize existing ones. Adwords is a platform built for the small solo operator AND big corporations, so there is a lot within the dashboard to sort & sift through. I basically assist small local service businesses get set up right so they don’t continue to lose money. Plus I offer interactive lessons (not something many people do out there at all). Google Adwords is huge and growing (partly how Google makes its BILLIONS). If you love data analysis, marketing in general, writing on point & creative ad copy, and simply LEARNING, the opportunities are there for TRUE self-starters. You also have to have super attention to detail with spelling, etc. I don’t have a college degree, mind you, but was hungry to learn it all. I am at heart a teacher and helper (and have always been geared towards marketing). I have owned my own little businesses as a house cleaner and professional organizer and then segued into Adwords (after building my own cleaning & organizing campaigns). Did so after I had my 2nd boy in 10/2015 and one in K at the time. I had to find a way to work from home because the chaos of meeting the school bus and dropping off and picking up at the sitter was getting a little crazy. 🙂 I recommend looking into Adwords. You can even get certified. That is my next goal.
There are a lot of hard parts. When you work from home people assume you have all of the time in the world and that you have nothing to do. So you should be able to help with all of the things they need or can’t do because they have to go to work. Which is farthest from the truth… I got way more accomplished when I had a job away from home. The kids are also home all day so the house is always a mess, they aren’t making a mess at the daycare that somebody else cleans. I went from what I thought was a tough corporate job to a pretty simple/easy work from home job. I was surprised at how way more difficult it was to be a work/stay at home mom. – Summer Price

Taking paid surveys is perhaps the easiest ways to pick some extra cash online. However, it is imperative that you join some of the best paying legitimate survey sites if you want to earn some money by giving your opinions through paid online surveys. You can find useful information on how to make money from surveys and which survey sites are best at Real Online Surveys.

I am a STAM working 3 jobs… all part time and from home… (can u believe it?) But really, I started with the mystery shopping, and that was OK. The positive was you get paid, the challenge was not frequently and sometimes needed to wait a month for payment to be transferred to the paypal account. Then I became and infant massage teacher and love this. REDTENTSALE is my Ebay store, I sell so many various items I find from wholesellers and it’s nice, I do this when the kids are asleep; anyone can… very manageable and nice “but light” income. I would say the one by far that is taking me places is Real Estate Marketing.
Set up a personal workspace where you keep everything you need for your e-business. Even if you don’t have a spare room available for an office, buy a desk and create an area completely devoted to your small business. Our environment plays a big part in establishing our habits, so having a space dedicated to work will help shift your mindset into business mode.
Some firms outsource their customer service operations and many of these companies accept home-based contractors. You can start by signing up on freelancing sites such as Upwork to test the waters with this business idea first. If you’re already a CSR specialist with management skills, then you can form and lead a virtual team online and engage clients as a bona fide customer service company or, provide customer service training to such teams as well as individuals.

Working full-time at home isn’t for the faint of heart. It requires focus, discipline, motivation, and an ability to fight through the day-to-day isolation. It takes a certain personality to love it and thrive at it. But of the work-at-home warriors out there, there is a select group of which I am constantly in awe. Work-at-home moms who are also caring for young children full time. These are the parents who are genuinely trying to “have it all,” all at once, difficulties or not.

When my first son was born, I was able to split my days, working three days in the office and two days at home. When I got pregnant with my second, my family and I relocated across the country–and Edgenuity let me stay on full-time remote. It’s been an awesome opportunity and really helped with the transition for us. It’s tough working full-time–sometimes tougher when you’re totally remote–and having a toddler, but totally worth it. Cutting out all the costs and frustrations of a daily commute [which was 3 hours a day minimum living in NYC] and gaining back that time with my family has been priceless.
People who love dogs and other people may be well-suited for owning a dog training business, as the work involves interacting with both dogs and their owners. Patience is another valuable attribute, because training dogs often requires repeating the same drill multiple times. Dog training businesses usually operate during the day, which can make it difficult to run a business while keeping a traditional day job.

This is a perfect business idea for trained accountants who would like to work from home, although it is not necessary to be a Certified Public Accountant in order to become a freelance bookkeeper—it’s just necessary to have the background knowledge that bookkeeping courses at any community college can offer. This kind of freelance work is especially helpful for small businesses that do not need or cannot afford a fulltime bookkeeper, making it possible for you to have full time work through several smaller clients. Median salary: $34,000.

2) Get a landline phone and get a cordless handset with multiple handsets and wireless headsets that can mute. It’s inevitable that you will travel around the house when working from home and my biggest pet peeve was being in one part of the house only to have my phone in another. Get multiple handsets so that you can conduct business everywhere and don’t have to worry about batteries running dead on the phones. You could use a cellphone, but I like the reliability of a landline phone, just in case.
Since naptime is when many moms are tempted to cram in everything on their to-do list -- dishwashing, playdate schedules, laundry -- try to stay focused. "If you were working outside the home, you wouldn't be concerned with anything but work," says Durst. Concentrate only on the things you can't do when your child is awake. Aside from naptime, if you're a morning person, use the wee hours to get stuff done before the rest of the family wakes up. A night owl? Burn the midnight oil.

If you are a stay at home mum, then this is a great business to leverage on. You may consider learning the art of painting the nails, fixing artificial nails, as well as generally being up to speed with the art of nail beautification. This is also a type of business that a working class mum can start too. However, this means that if you are a working class mum, you may want to employ an expert who renders the services to the women that comes there.
Seems backward for children to leave the home each day while parents stay home. And for many work-at-home parents daycare just doesn’t make sense. However, preschools and daycare centers provide something parents can’t--social interactions with their peers. Also, daycare may be a less expensive full-time option than a nanny.  Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers can need more attention than you are able to give if your job involves regular deadlines or frequent phone calls. Sending them to daycare, where they will make friends and engage in stimulating activities, might be the best thing for all.

Hi Creative Moms! 🙂 I think this article is just great, I love how you help stay-at-home moms to use their creativity and earn money also from home. I would just add one more to the list. I am an artist and Creativity Coach…and also a mom. While my little one was still at home I couldn’t really work with clients that much, and I have created a lot of art those days….but couldn’t really sell them so quickly. I have joined online art galleries etc, but if you are an artist you know… it’s just a slow process. They may or may not buy your art and it can take a lot of time. I was also on Etsy and still have a store there but it is also quite slow.. So this was when I have started to research on how I could turn my art into a profitable business too… it was a long search but I have found Elke Clarke and Zazzle. Zazzle is a POD site where you can buy customizable gifts, cards etc…. but… you can be a designer there and earn royalty there too. But what I didn’t want is to make that mistake, that I figure everything out on my own…because the site is SOOOOO complex and I wanted to get it right from the first moment.
Good post. You have really motivated me to open a blog and start writing. I will put a lot of these money earning tips into practice. Although I have been writing and posting articles about paid surveys on my blog, unfortunately I am not making much to even maintain the blog. It is just a waste of time. I will try to go through these sites you listed here to know which topic to stick with. Thanks

We're all guilty of spending too much time on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest sometimes, so why not get paid to put your expertise to work as a side business idea? Lots of companies, especially startups or those in retail and travel—even influencers have heavy social media presences and are constantly in need of people to help build their brands online. You can find these types of opportunities on sites like Flexjobs and CareerBuilder and most employers on these websites are conditioned to working with people who operate these services as their side business idea. Over time as you grow in your ability to leverage various social channels, you can add more service offerings like running high-return Facebook Ad campaigns or hosting lucrative sweepstakes competitions for the brands you want to work with.
A financial consulting firm helps individuals and small businesses manage and grow their wealth. You are more likely to service individuals than large corporations, but your small business should be prepared to do both. Clients will look to you for detailed financial information, informed financial forecasting, and ways to invest to achieve their short-term and long-term goals.
Believe it or not, this freelance bike messenger makes more money than some people glued to their office desks. You won't rake in a whopping $50,000 as this guy does by just doing this in your free time as a side business idea only, but you’ll surely get a piece of the action. Even Uber is trying out a blueprint for a delivery service, and companies like WunWun and Amazon are stepping up their efforts to expand same-day delivery, increasing the demand for more to jump in on this business idea. If you have a decent bicycle, those pair of pedals might just earn you a healthy side hustle income.
Some never would have crossed my mind. (a Pinterest consultant? How cool is that?) Some direct marketing opportunities I’ve never heard of before. (Zija anyone?) There are even a couple of single moms supporting their families with their work at home jobs. And what’s more is that they’re carving out a space to chase their own dreams even while raising little ones.
Owners should not only keep up with the news, but also want to influence and entertain an audience as to what’s going on in the world. Owners should also have some expertise. For example, a climate change scientist who wants to cover stories about political change in different countries. Starting a news website doesn't have to involve flying to different places in the nation or the world, but owners should have some mobility and connections when it comes to getting a fresh take on a story.

She loves it. She is social and loves the teachers and she has special friends that she talks about all the time and she learns new things and is excited to show me the stuff they make. What I'm gunning for now, is to establish myself at this new company so that when she starts kindergarten in a couple years, I'll have enough clout at my office to ask for a 3/4 time job. I want someone to be here at 3 (some kindys are even less hours!) to care for her. Ideally, I want to split that time between me and my husband. Maybe: I get home at 3 on Monday & Tuesday, he'll do it Wednesday & Thursday, and either we'll both be off on Friday afternoons or we'll split it. He is so mentally resistant to this (another big reason we can't get work/life balance is that men are resistant to it) that I'm not sure it'll work unless I do it but that's my 100% goal.

Do you love being around dogs but can’t commit to having one of your own? There is a big demand for dog walking for people who work long hours away from the home as well as dog sitting for when dog owners go out of town. This would give you and your kids the perfect opportunity to have fun with a four-legged friend without having to adopt one of your own.
Thank you for such a great, practical list! I currently live overseas and my options are limited. I love the great income I make with Jamberry, I joined early and have an incredible team. Team building is key in direct sales! Since my kids are school-aged I also started substitute teaching this year and love it. Definitely looking into a few more ideas from this list. Thanks again!
I do work on my computer while he is up and playing and then when it's nap time I make my phone calls! I get my list of contacts and numbers ready before he lays down, so I have as much time as possible to make calls for follow up or recruiting. It's worked out really well so far!! Love my baby boy and my “job” I'm so happy to find a balance that meets everyone's needs! – Tiffany Lynch of 3000BC
With the byzantine complexity of modern medical billing practices, there is a definite need for patient advocates. These individuals take the time to track down hospital billing paperwork and potentially argue with insurance companies. Considering the fact that many of those who need to hire advocates are either ailing or grieving, this is a very necessary service.

It is a solid fact that women have always been engaged in one form of trade or the other from time immemorial. As a matter of fact, this dates back to over two thousand centuries. Back then, we had cases of women who were into kneading, tapestry, cooking and what have you. Fast forward to the present times, and you will realize that the case has not changed – meaning women haven’t grown any lazier. Rather they have continued to wax strong in strength.

Food production from a home is heavily regulated but it’s not impossible. Take Martha Stewart, for example—she famously entered the food service business with a basement-based catering company in 1976. Before you start a home-based food business you will need to understand the rules and regulations that govern the production of food for public consumption in an at-home environment. For example do you need a separate kitchen? What about product labeling? And so on.
Consider childcare. Being able to be near your child is a major perk to having a home office, but most moms find that they need an extra set of capable hands to get work done. You can’t meet every deadline during naptime, and there’ll be days when your critter is bouncing off the walls as a client is calling. So don’t skimp on childcare. In fact, have a backup caregiver at the ready (Grandma or a drop-in daycare center) in case your sitter calls in sick.
A doula is a labor coach that can help a birthing mother in any labor environment, from a hospital to a midwife clinic to home. Doulas are non-medical professionals who offer information, emotional support, and physical assistance in the process of giving birth. While licensing for doulas is not required by most states, getting certified by DONA International, the only certifying body for this profession, is a good idea. Doulas do have to deal with unpredictable schedules, but they easily can do this work from home. Doulas generally charge between $500 and $1000 per birth.
This business is right for those who enjoy learning about technology and the challenge of restoring damaged items to like-new condition. Professionals in this business help conserve natural resources while helping customers preserve treasured photos and online communications as well as valuable software and digital content such as games, books, and music.
On the other hand, for some people, a home-based business is the only attractive option. Some businesses would be hemorrhaging money if they purchased or rented an unnecessary physical space. If you create beautiful artwork, great blogs, tasty treats, lovely candles, or use your creativity some other way to create unique things, a home-based business might be the right option for you.

Trying to be an active parent and focused businessperson all in the same minute can make you crazy. Learn to concentrate on one, and then the other. Learn to switch gears quickly, and intentionally. Sometimes your baby will interrupt your focused work. Just step away and return to it when you have taken care of the baby. Trying to do two things at once well can lead you to do them both poorly. Enjoy your baby, look at them, love them. Put them down to play or sleep and then work hard, and focus. – Shay Prosser of Get It Together

I would tell a mother who is starting to work from home with small children to not give up and to be patient with herself, her business [or career], and her children. Your children aren’t going to be small forever, so enjoy them while you can. Don’t let their young years slip by… And if possible, find another mom who is going on this crazy and exciting work from home adventure so you two can set weekly goals for your business and hold each other accountable. Life and running an at home business is more refreshing and possible when you know that you’re not alone. – Micah | Home Faith Family
DEAR ANNOYED BABY SITTER: It is understandable that you feel some awkwardness in trying to establish a rhythm and a sense of authority when the mom of the children you are baby-sitting is right there. Naturally, they go to their mother when decisions have to be made or when problems arise. You will never be able to compete with that, nor should you want to. Instead, you need to develop ground rules with the mother about your role and her expectations. Whatever she wants the children to do, she has to agree on with you and reinforce with them. If there are times when she is going to be unavailable, that needs to be made clear to everyone. Perhaps she can put a sign on her door saying, “PRIVACY PLEASE.” During that period, the children must learn that they have to follow your direction entirely. Partner with the mom on a plan that works for everyone.
Parenting is lovely and amazing, but we know it’s hard enough as it is (and it’s already an all-consuming full-time gig). Adding an outside job on top of that has the possibility of making you feel overwhelmed and unable to focus on your family, your hobbies, your relaxation, and yourself. Check out some jobs that offer the promise of a nice balance of work, family, and life outside of your many obligations.
Teaching and tutoring English as a second language is a great way to make a solid side business idea work, not to mention opening doors for you to travel the world if you'd like. While full ESL (English as a Second Language) accreditation is recommended, as long as you’re a native speaker, there are people in countries such as Hong Kong or the UAE who are willing to pay upwards of $25/hr for you to teach them English via Skype. Indeed, Learn4Good and Remote.co often have remote english tutoring jobs posted, check back frequently. Then once you land that remote job, you'll need somewhere more professional than your dining room table to meet with students—check out this post about how to find places to work remotely and you'll officially graduate this side business idea into a full-time endeavor for yourself.
Stay-at-home moms can start a childbirth education business and share their experience and knowledge about pregnancy, labor, delivery and early child care to first-time moms. You can attend courses and workshops about childbirth education so you’ll have an idea about what to teach. The best thing about this business is that you can bring your young children along with you.

You already spend way too much time pinning on Pinterest and posting fabulous pics on Instagram. Now get paid for your social-media savvy! The social-media evaluator will need to improve the relevancy of the newsfeed for a leading global social-media client. You’ll need to commit to working one to four flexible hours a day, five days per week. For some projects, at least one day must be a weekend day. Doing outstanding work will make you eligible for additional social-media projects. To qualify, you’ll have to perform online daily social-media use (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.), have strong communication skills and a high-speed Internet connection.
I know every child is different, but for my almost-three-year-old, toys are just the gateway into some other highly messy, loud, or dangerous activity that needs my attention. To often I’m faced with a, “Mommy, can I show Mickey how to use the knife?” Or, “I’m just getting the screwdriver, my Thomas needs new batteries.” Or, “Mommy, I don’t want to play with any of my toys, I just want to climb on your head.” Basically, a non-ideal working condition.
The hardest part is when I’m trying to blog during my crazy morning hours and my little ones decide to chase their imaginary friend down the hallway while shouting the Star Spangled Banner (usually after I get into the really great part of writing a blog post). It’s difficult to balance motherhood and a business, but truthfully, both are worth every sacrifice you can make. – Micah | Home Faith Family
After my first son was born, I quit my full-time job. A couple of years later, SeedMommy was born. I have since had two babies while WAH. My advice: Planning ahead is key. Get as much work done before the baby is born and plan sometime after the baby is born to get back into the swing of things. Whether it's your first or sixth child, the love a Mom has for her newborn is overwhelming and can push everything on the backburner. Planning ahead will give you time with your baby while keeping your biz on track. – Toni Bloomfield
Do you adore babies? “A birth doula is an individual who offers one-on-one support for a woman in labor as well as her partner and family. The word “doula” comes from a Greek word meaning “woman’s servant.” Birth doulas provide continuous, uninterrupted care for the laboring woman and her partner, helping them participate fully in their experience by offering physical and emotional support and information about the birth process and their available options”.

Anyone who is artistically inclined and enjoys animals may like running a pet portraits business. For those who like to draw, paint, or work with another medium, doing commissioned portraits is a great way to earn an income creating art. Loving animals helps business owners stay interested in their work even when they’re working on animal portraits several days in a row.
I don’t have kids yet, but this gives me hope. I feel like I’m surrounded by resignation to double-income-children-in-daycare, and it really doesn’t excite me. My husband would love to retire/semi-retire early and be the stay-at-home parent, and it’s lovely to hear how you make your situation work. I totally agree that routine is so helpful, even before you have kids. We get up at about 5:30 every morning and have coffee together because my hubby works 7-3 (mostly to avoid traffic). Having that routine really kicks my day off to a good start, and it feels like I have all this extra time in the morning that everyone misses out on!

Additionally, business owners who start this type of business are in good company. Not only do many people have successful children’s book businesses today, but one of the most successful children’s authors in modern history began by self-publishing her work. Beatrix Potter funded the first runs of both Peter Rabbit and The Tailor of Gloucester. The two stories are popular even to this day.
My job has been called cute, put in air quotes and been the butt of many jokes. I doubt most other writers, event planners, photographers and social media, marketing or branding strategists (all hats I wear) who have an actual office or brick-and-mortar business have experienced the same. Why is our job viewed as a hobby or passion project if we work from home? What is it about the confines of the house that constitutes less respect?

Content marketing is, put simply, an intersection of creativity, sales, and media management. Thus, this job is ideal for someone who is already experienced in one or more of those areas. For instance, someone with a background in writing will have an easier time creating certain kinds of content, whereas those with a background in advertising will approach content from a different angle. Sales veterans will understand how all of this impacts a company's bottom line, whereas savvy social media users will understand the need to use non-traditional channels to build, maintain, and propel a company's brand.
As the sole breadwinner for my family, I love Bethany’s comment on taking some of the pressure off her husband! My husband and I made the decision for him to stay home together, and I adore the special bond he has with our son and the parental attention our son gets on a regular basis, but that doesn’t mean being a single wage earner isn’t its own kind of pressure. If living on a single income makes money tight for your family, working at home even part-time may help ease the burden.
This business is best for those who have already trained for it via formal education. Therefore, ideal business owners are those who have successfully completed a Master's degree or higher in a field such as Marriage and Family Therapy. Such a degree is required in order to meet the strict licensing requirements for such a business in most states. Beyond that, this job is best for those who are naturally empathetic with others and who truly enjoy healing those around them.

Yes, you can make money by blogging. I follow several stay-at-home moms who happen to be fashion and style bloggers – and it’s their business. If you can write and have a passion for a specific topic or hobby that you know will garner some attention, then this might be for you. Income generation opportunities can come in the form of affiliate marketing and advertising on your website or from companies who ask you to review and blog about their products. Look for ways to get traffic to your website through social media, search engine optimization and by getting involved in the wider blogosphere (networking with and commenting on the blogs of others in your niche).
What you said Natasha!!! I am scared as well but kind of encouraged after reading all of the success stories. I have been at my current job for 6 years as well and am due in October. At 16 weeks I have already had complications with this pregnancy and am battling my employer on following my doctor’s orders. Despite doctor’s notes from emergency room visits my supervisor does not comprehend my high risk pregnancy. I never would have thought about being a SAHM until now. I loved this article and have found hope that I can do this!
If you are interested, stop by. And if you, Alexa, would like to know more or would at least add a note to your list that single moms can earn a real, full time income in the adult industry – on their own, no need to get naked or do gross stuff. It’s hard work though and I also basically work full time – with the exception that I work whenever I want, so I always have time for the kids.
People in this thread are not exaggerating. Little BLF jr is an easy baby; I could totally put in five hours a day while taking decent care of him, if i was doing something like Mechanical Turk. I mean, I've managed to post this, right? Little bits of piece-work, no prob. My full-time job requires serious concentration, and if I go freelance we will totally get a nanny as already suggested. But no, a thousand times no.

You won't get the long stretches of uninterrupted time you used to get before your little one entered the picture, but you will get some solid chunks of time while he or she naps. Use this time to do the things you can't do holding your baby, such as interviewing, preparing mailers, or taking notes. Other things, such as keyboarding, can be accomplished with your baby in a sling, so you can save those for when your baby is awake. – Jennifer Roland of Freelance Writer
[…] 50+ Legitimate Work From Home Job Opportunities  I have known people who have tried to find jobs they can do in their free time from home and it is really hard to find a work at home job that isn’t a scam.  Alexa from singlemomsincome.com has a list of actual things you can do to earn a little extra money.  The one tip I have is that there is no job called “work from home”  If that is the title of the classified ad then keep moving because that isn’t a real job listing. Great Post! I like the tip on creating a direct sales business. I stated my online fitness business in April 2016 and have averaged $500 a month. The pace has been increasing and mine and my husbands goal is to quit our jobs in Aug. of 2017 to take this business full time. It is possible to make money online you just have to believe in yourself! You can do it!

For me personally, I do 98% of my calls while Mr. FW watches Babywoods–it is really tough to be on a call with her in the background. When she was tiny, she’d sleep/nurse on me during calls, which was fine, but now that she’s an active toddler, I can’t do calls with her (except in rare circumstances where I absolutely have to and then we make it work. She once sat on my lap during a Skype video chat, which actually totally worked 😉 ).
I am unsure as to whether this question is completely relevant or not, but: I am, or at least, would like to be a writer. I don’t want to sound overly supercilious, just truthful, but I have a great deal of talent and there is virtually nothing I can’t write. However, I digress. I recently wrote a short story, which, despite its length (9 pages) is really more like a sketch, but its very eclectic and general. What I want to know is where can I sell this story? It’s jocoserious and seriocomic and pseudoautobiographical, and while not overly sexual, does content overtly erotic elements, yet I’d never categorize it as erotica, which, though I can write, and good at it, I dislike to, viewing it as a diminishment and degradation of my talents; also, it’s trashy and overly simple: beneath me and all decent, talented writers in every way! lol.
Many people’s interest in music goes beyond just listening to it. A lot of people who enjoy listening to it are also interested in learning how to play an instrument. A music lessons business gives novice musicians a way to learn to play an instrument, and it provides more seasoned musicians with advanced training to help them improve their musical abilities. A business may offer private or group lessons in home or classroom settings.

While a content marketing agency focuses on creating content, the nature and purpose of that content may change from client to client. Some clients primarily want to increase their customers via traditional advertising, whereas others want content that integrates with their sales funnel and improves the process of gathering leads. Still other clients may want help developing their unique brand and creating a social media presence in which their target demographic may engage with that brand.
The art of eBay, or buying and selling online, is a mysterious one. But it can be conquered if you do your research on business ideas for stay-at-home moms.. It’s all about picking up bulk items for a low price and then selling them on for a higher price. You might be selling hundreds of individual items a day if you really get into it. This is the only way to make a substantial profit, unless you have prior knowledge of a cheap wholesalers who can get you some seriously great deals. For some additional insight and tips, have a read of Ken Rockwell’s guide.
“Seven years ago, after a few failed businesses, I was feeling stretched, tired and wishing for more time with my family. I was at the end of my rope and had nothing to lose. I started my current business on a generic blogger website almost overnight. The inspiration?  My kids.  My husband was away for work often and I had two toddlers at home. We had just moved to a new town and I didn't know anyone there. It felt as if everything was stacked against me. What I learned through the process was priceless.”
These businesses are necessary because most businesses have a need for data entry, information tracking, organization, and analysis. Popular websites offer jobs that can be bid on by data entry businesses, which then enter data for any company that needs it. Most large companies contract with independent data entry companies for either part-time or full-time data entry needs.
As long as you can follow directions and catch on quickly, data entry work is a breeze and you can do it at home. SigTrack offers seasonal data entry jobs from home. The tasks involve keying in voter registration and petition forms. You just need to make sure you meet a few technical requirements when it comes to having the right equipment for the job.
I also prepare my physical environment in advance of naptime. For example, I make my lunch while I give Babywoods her lunch. I put her highchair in the kitchen so that we can chat while I cook and she munches. That way, as soon as she hits that afternoon nap, I don’t have to waste time making lunch. I pull my salad out of the fridge and sit down at my computer. I even make my thermos of decaf coffee pre-nap.
If you have at least one hour per day to dedicate to work and great communicational skills that might be your variant. Social Media Specialist is responsible for providing the relevant content and evaluation of newsfeed information. The industry and business might be chosen according to your previous experience or interests. A candidate needs to be a confident user of social networks and know how to handle the account’s activity and maintain an online presence. A stable and fast internet connection is also required.
As the coffee brews and the laptop hums, you're ready to begin another day as a work-at-home mom. The flexibility of working from home is great, but when the baby cries in the middle of your conference call, this working mom challenge spikes. According to Sara Sutton Fell, founder of FlexJobs, "There's a common misconception that working from home means you can care for your kids while you work, but it's really not fair to your job or your children to try to do both simultaneously." But what if you don't have a choice? Balancing your professional life and your child's care requires organization and strategic planning. Before you jump on your next conference call, try these five tips to make working from home with your baby easier:
A professional meditation business provides a location for clients to practice different forms of meditation in order to become more relaxed and focused. Different clients seek out meditation centers for different purposes. Some clients merely want to achieve a better sense of relaxation and peace. Other clients see meditation as a path towards performing better in their careers and relationships.
I agree with ThePinkSuperhero. Why are you rejecting day care? Our daughter started fairly young and still, at 3 1/2, goes to the same day care, and will go through pre-K. She loves it there, and we love the fact that the school and its employees are trained and licensed for such care. She has some great friends. The different teachers for each unit separate by age do have different personalities, and for her, learning how to get along with them (and the different kids) has also been helpful.
Owners of grant writing businesses are adept at finding foundations, government entities and other funding sources and applying for funding on behalf of their non-profit clients. You will, in short, serve as a matchmaker, putting together funding sources and needs. You’ll continually seek grant opportunities and write succinctly, persuasively and in an organized manner in filling out requests for proposals (RFP) to win funding.
Mrs. Frugalwoods, you have planned yourself into what seems to be many mothers’ ideal. Everything changes after having a baby, including priorities in life and attitudes toward work. With so many women the answer is black or white, full time work or stay at home mom (with such a stigma). As a long time reader, I’m glad you’ve found a fulfilling mix of family and work. I’ve often fantasized about every workplace having a daycare on site, and perhaps moms could rotate to help watch the children. What do you think? Will this solve all the feminist working mothers’ problems?
Are you an extrovert that loves meeting new people? Selling insurance products—particularly life insurance—may be a great way to bring in some extra cash and build residual income in your spare time. Selling life insurance on the side could quickly generate a consistent $1,000 - $2,000 per month depending on how much time you invest in this side business idea. To get started you’ll likely want to take an online course to brush up on the subject matter, and then pass a state licensing exam. The biggest challenge you'll face as a new agent is generating sales beyond just helping out friends and family. From there, it’s all about networking and lead generation to grow this one. Learn more about this side business idea with this getting started in life insurance guide from the team over at NoExam.
You can take online classes to improve your voice and get variations in your intonation. You need to get an understanding on natural pauses in conversation, breathing, holding the mic, intonation, etc. In order to capture a crystal clear recording, you might want to set up a home studio. Once you create a voice demo audio file, market it to various recording studios. And yes, there is a need to visit recording studios, so this is not a complete stay-at-home job!
A portrait photography business provides high-quality, professional photos of individuals and families. Many businesses offer specialized services for things such as school photos, holiday cards, and family portraits. Because of the ability to offer these useful services year-round, portrait photography businesses play a vital role in the communities that they are located in.

Katie Bardaro, vice president of data analytics at online salary database PayScale.com, says several characteristics make a job desirable for working mothers, but one key consideration is flexibility. “Moms have to carefully balance work demands with home demands and having a flexible schedule makes this balancing act less precarious,” Bardaro says. “The ability to work part time during school hours, take time off to watch over a sick child, or even work from home makes for a good work-life balance.”

Are you looking to make extra income by putting your cooking skills to use? Catering could be highly profitable if you begin by making homely food and sending out leaflets to neighbours announcing your specialties. Business events, birthdays, baptism parties, corporate functions and companies need people to cater for them. In addition, there are niche food areas such as vegetarian food, vegan food and kosher food which is where specialised cooks can come in to fill the gap.

If you’re expecting a baby, or in the midst of a childcare arrangement that’s not working out for you, consider if the work-from-home model might help alleviate some of the time and money burdens you’re facing. Finding remote work isn’t impossible and, if you can reduce your expenses and live on less, you can afford to take a lower paying job with fewer hours. That’s the beautiful circle of frugality: the less you spend, the more you save, and the less you need to earn.
"Work-from-home-moms are incredible – even if your target customers aren’t mothers. They know how to maximize their time, because they are moms, and know what a resource time is," Akerson said. "Eventually we realized it wasn’t just a coincidence that we kept hiring work-from-home-moms, it was actually part of the mission of Kindred Bravely to enable more families to have the work-life balance that we had found in our remote team. Since my husband and I both craved work that would let us be more available to our children than a traditional office and teaching job would allow, we made sure our company values and structure would align with that balance. With advances in technology, we found it was possible to form a completely remote team, which came with many unexpected benefits."
Veronica V., Have you found anything yet? You said you are great with customer service and sales. Have you ever thought about direct sales? I am a consultant for Rodan+Fields, an anti-aging company founded by the very same dermatologists that created ProActiv. We are not a party company (though if you like hosting parties you sure can). We don’t have any quotas. I would love to talk to you if interested! Thanks!

Depending on your preference, you can specialize in a single media format such as video or still images, to build a compelling portfolio and grow this into a business idea that has the potential to scale.
Becoming a mom is an exciting time unless you're faced with leaving your child at daycare to go to a job. Many mothers look for a way to work-at-home, allowing them to have the best of both worlds; raising the children while also contributing to the family income. Unfortunately, finding work-at-home jobs can be a challenge. Many are scams, but even when you find the legitimate jobs, getting hired is a long and frustrating process. Plus, some aren't very flexible and still require daycare.

Credibility is critical, so it’s imperative that you have a connections in the entertainment business. You do not need to be famous, but you need to have relationships with others in the industry, so they can verify that you have the knowledge needed to teach others the art of acting. If your specialization is in film acting training, you should be a current or retired film or television actor, director, casting director or have similar industry experience. If you’re teaching commercial acting, you should have experience as a commercial actor, director or on the ad agency commercial production side. Your reputation in the acting community and how you promote your credentials will be critical to your success.
Public relations agencies also act as advisors in establishing or improving the relationships between clients and their clients' various audiences and influencers. In this regard, they might suggest changing practices or embracing new policies that will enhance reputations. If that effort fails or comes too late, some PR firms specialize in crisis communications, which involves salvaging client reputations when events take place that put them in a negative light.

Hi. I am a 35 year old woman with extreme social phobia and anxiety. I have been working forever as a retail manager. I have great customer service skills and can type fairly well. I have been on short term disability for almost a year and it is going to be ending. I have no idea what I’m going to do, or how I will be able to pay my bills. I need a way to support myself by working at home without any of the scams or gimmicks. If there is anyone out there that could help me or knows of something, PLEASE let me know.
If you have a knack for connecting with people and the willingness to take on some risk, a commission-based freelance sales role could be a great side business idea for you. Many startups seek part-time and commission-only salespeople, especially when they're just getting started, which means you'll often be able to make this a home based business idea. Develop your sales strategies, become an inside sales rep and perfect your cold calling skills on the side in your free time for nothing but commission, negotiate a little equity and you could profit big time if you're pitching a solid product and the startup succeeds. Start your sales education with the acclaimed books, Secrets of a Master Closer and To Sell is Human by famed bestselling author Daniel Pink and you'll be well on your way to getting this side business idea off the ground.
You may think working at home means you can skip child care, but you'll have days when you need help -- and that's okay. When Jonas was about 6 months old, O'Donnell hired a responsible high-school student to watch him two or three hours two days a week. The teenager charged half of what an adult sitter or day care would, and it meant O'Donnell could concentrate on answering e-mails and returning phone calls.

I work at home as an Operator Services contractor. Many people are scared of some of these jobs because they appear to be “too good to be true” and because you do have to pay for your background check up front. Some of them might be, however I have worked for http://www.LiveOps.com for 3 years now, and it has been great. My neighbor worked for them for 9 years. I choose my own hours, with shifts as short as 30 minutes. I have worked my way up to a specialty line, which I enjoy more that the “starter” line all agents start on. There are pros and cons, as with any job, but the pay is good (I average $15/hour) and I love the incredible flexibility. Agents are needed 24 hours per day, so you have lots of options. It is not available in every state though, So check the web site for more info.
Work-from-home jobs come in all varieties, and not all of them are legit. So my first tip for work-from-home parents is: Beware of scams! If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be wary of any job that requires you to part with cash up-front, as well as anything that "promises" or "guarantees" overnight riches yet doesn't have a set pay rate. If you're considering a position but suspect it might be a scam, check with the Better Business Bureau or the Trade Commission.
A social media marketer provides ideas and content for their clients. Some owners may specialize in a particular type of platform (e.g., Facebook only), but most work with all platforms to create a cohesive strategy for a business. Owners may work with one particular type of business (e.g., social media for real estate only) or with a variety of businesses or causes.

I started a business with four other moms and our teenage daughters – in order to teach them about business, marketing, fiscal responsibilities and in order to empower them with the confidence that they could help contribute tuition money for college. Christian Bling (www.ctbling.com) is now in 27 states with 150 Consultants after just a couple years. Our consultants sell hand-crafted faith-based jewelry made in Atlanta by struggling moms. The method is called social selling, and it combines home shows, social media, events, exhibitions, blogging, Business-to-business, fundraisers and networking. Christian Bling is retiring nurses, teachers and hairdressers (to name a few). Minimal start up cost is $199 for 7 pieces of jewelry (retail $600+). Visit our website to feel inspired to start your own jewelry with Christian Bling!

Think it through carefully. No matter where you’re standing, the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. Sometimes it sounds like a fantasy to me to work in an office outside of my home and to be able to take lunch breaks that are for me, have a few minutes to myself in the car each day, etc. Sometimes I wonder if my son wouldn’t do better in a daycare setting for the social and developmental aspects. It is easy to get distracted working from home. If you are not a highly organized and self-motivated person, working from home, especially with young children, may not be for you. If it is right for you and your family, set your priorities early on and reflect on them frequently. – Ashleigh
