The keys to making this work are discipline (it can be hard to hunker down and be productive while at home), organization skills (your time becomes limited) and establishing a routine with your partner (they will need to understand that when you’re “off duty” after 6pm, for example, it’s because you might have a deadline to contend with).

Many of the jobs are specifically to write articles for websites. There is a huge demand for such content and as long as you are a competent writer (i.e. you speak and write fluent English and your level of writing is good enough where you can actually produce a good article about any topic given), you can make a decent part time living as a freelance article writer. If you build up a list of clients, you can even turn this into a FULL time job as well.

It’s completely okay to say you’ve been staying at home with your children for the past few years. In fact, employers will appreciate your dedication. Include this on your applications and even in your resume if the gap has been significant. Make sure you stress to the employer what you’ve learned during this time. I’d be willing to bet your patience, time management and organizational skills have greatly improved and these are all traits employers cherish. By bringing in your strengths as a stay at home parent, you’ll prove to the employer you’ve continued to learn and you’ll be an asset to their team.

Combatting the loneliness of being a stay-at-home dad goes beyond changing the narrative. Our-stay-at home dads crave community, too. As a small part of the stay-at-home population, stay-at-home dads have few folks to talk to about the challenges of putting your career on hold for a family. This isolation is magnified by primary caregiving as women’s work and therefore devalued.
So where does that leave a dad eager to improve his work-life balance or a stay-at-home parent wanting to make a little extra cash on the side? Not totally out of luck, it turns out. We took a look through the online job boards to see what kind of remote jobs were both prevalent and required the little experience and/or training to get started ⏤ actual jobs that don’t involve freelancing, selling old stuff, or starting your own business from home. There were a number of categories that stood out, and while they may not be positions you’d want to build a career around or do forever, they are relatively easy to get, pay decent wages (especially if your partner is still working full time), and don’t require that you get certified to teach Tae Bo or open a Cross Fit gym in your basement. Here are five to look for:
There are several reasons why some families feel that it would be more beneficial for the father to be the primary caregiver while the mother works outside the home. The decision to use a stay-at-home dad arrangement is most commonly due to economic reasons. At the same time, women are progressing into higher-paying jobs. In the United States, this number has reached 1.9 million and accounts for 16% of the stay-at-home parent population, according to 2015 U.S. Census data. Our culture continues to shift away from the rigid gender roles of past generations, which is made evident by women expecting more involvement from dads — and dads stepping up to the challenge by willingly taking on the primary nurturing role in their children’s life.
