I’d be lying if I said being a work-from-home mom seemed like a dream job when I was younger. For a long time, I was so career-consumed and self-absorbed that I envisioned skipping over parenthood and embracing aunthood for eternity. I loved kids—I babysat, substitute taught and obsessed over photos of my nephews—but I wanted to travel the world, climb the corporate ladder and spend my free time at the spa. And so the thought of becoming a mother sat on the back burner.
I’m going to be the primary caregiver for our child (arriving in 10 weeks, give or take!) but also work part-time mostly from home for my business. I’m happy to have you as a model, a few months ahead of me! I do plan to travel for speaking engagements for some of my income when the baby is > 12 weeks old, which will necessitate occasional babysitters, and it remains to be seen whether I’ll view that as a welcome or unwelcome break from our child.
I can’t NOT work; that one month of bed rest drove me crazy and I’d be bored without something to engage my mind. I do copy writing, editing and transcription. My first clients were referrals from friends and online communities. I now have enough projects to pay the bills for the next few months, especially since we made a drastically leaner budget that allows me to stay at home. My husband’s office offers health insurance for dependents, so that’s one less thing to pay for. The WAHM life can be quite exhausting and since I’m extroverted, I find it lonely sometimes. But the plus is priceless: I get to spend my days with my two most favorite people in the world.
When a new mom asks me my secret to maintaining my sanity with three kids, one of my first answer is this: figure out what kind of mother you are. (You can read more about it here.) I didn’t know this at the beginning of my motherhood journey and tried to do what everyone else was doing. Except, I didn’t understand that every mom has her own demons and struggles behind closed doors and I was chasing an ideal vision of motherhood that I didn’t fully comprehend.

If HGTV is your must-watch channel, then a work-from-home job as a tour contributor could be a perfect match for you. Use your strong photography skills and eye for style to write house tours of homes of all sizes and styles. You’ll need to have superior writing chops, a good-quality digital camera and tripod (i.e., no iPhone pics), and access to Photoshop, Lightroom or an equivalent photo-editing program. Candidates for the position will be considered only if they submit a mock sample tour of high-resolution JPEG images, descriptive captions, floor plans and three short introductory paragraphs.
PPD (Post Partum Depression) Alert. Went to do my taxes today, accountant says the person we have in the office is not doing things correctly, we have to 'hire' someone to handle accounts receivables.  We owe taxes, which is normal for us but not when I have PPD, she wants a bunch of reports from our quickbooks.  When we left I wanted to cry.  I feel like the whole world is on my shoulders, I feel like I am in the middle of a deep pool on my tiptoes and I am slowly drowning. and this can't be

Next to my divorce, one of the toughest challenges I've had in my life was trying to re-enter the workforce after a prolonged absence home with my children. You would think that getting moving to a new city and country at 17, getting married and raising kids would have been harder. For me, the idea of going back to work was much more frightening and intimidating yet it was something I desperately wanted and needed.
25.  Remember your end-goal. When you’re 82, what will you look back and treasure?  Long for?  My bet is you’ll not think about how you wished you had written one more post, or expanded your company in that one way.  We’ll look back & either love the time we had with our families or wish we would have taken more.  It’s so easy to become swept up in life’s to do’s…live in the moment so you can look back and remember them all.

The web abounds with information for people who want to sell their services online (coaching, consulting, writing, etc), but what if you want to sell actual products — and still be location-independent? Turn to Tropical MBA, where Dan Andrews and Ian Schoen share the strategies they used to build a multi-million dollar business. Even better, give their weekly podcast a listen — it covers a range of topics every aspiring entrepreneur should know about.

Other things that you will need to consider while exploring stay-home-mom jobs ideas include making sure that your goals are realistic. You may not be able to find a high-paying, high-profile job as a stay-at-home mom. And you may not get rich by working from home. Some SAHMs or WAHMs (work-at-home moms) do create highly successful and profitable businesses, but they are often in the minority.
9. Everyday Intrusions: Your “Hey, let’s have a playdate!” neighbor isn’t the only one who might not understand that “work” is a key part of being a work-at-home mom. From your own mom to your friends, people may start suddenly popping in, calling, or texting at all times of the day, thinking you’re just hanging out with the kids. As you make this transition, you’ll need a plan for politely handling people who don’t understand that yes, you are actually working. Just from home.
I wonder how many young couples buy into the line that “they must have 2 incomes to manage these days.” I wish we had tried harder to live on one income before DS came along back in 1988. Having said that, when the company DH worked for closed down and he decided to try to go out on his own, my benefits were invaluable. DH was in partnership with this other guy for 10 years, and what he learned about himself and other people was a real eye-opener. If we hadn’t had my income, he wouldn’t have had the chance to grow personally and professionally.
About Blog Hi I'm Sarah. Every year 600,000 families with 1.35 million children experience homelessness in the USA. I was one of them, but that didn’t stop me from going after my dream (to not have to work outside the home). There’s hope for everyone.I believe you can stay home with your kids at ANY income level and it’s my purpose in life to show you how.

Now that I have three kids, people ask me if I’m going to cut back. Am I going to work less or write less or do less because I have several small children? Any given day you ask me, I might shrug my shoulders and mumble something about student loans and how kids are expensive, but the truth is that the answer is never. I’m never going to lean out on the areas of life that bring me joy.
As mentioned, sometimes working while your kids are home is going to be unavoidable. I have all of my children out for 4.5 hours a day. Then they come home at different times throughout the afternoon. I do have to take 15 minutes or so in the morning to plan what they’ll do in the afternoon. I love busy bags. You can find SO many ideas on Pinterest. I’ve been swamped lately so I haven’t created any new ones, but I do have to find the time.

So I gave up the idea of trying to be a full time SAHM or working outside of the home because being around my kids is priceless for me. I also decided to invest in a part-time nanny for my sanity and see it as a business decision to grow my passion into a business. Even if all my paycheck goes into paying my nanny it’s okay because I’m still working towards a goal and learning something new everyday.
Single Moms Income was the very first blog I turned to and gave me the push to leave my day job by starting a blog. When I finally made the move and started my blog I followed the lead of other bloggers that said I needed to guest post. Alexa was awesome enough to allow me to provide my first guest post “How to save on your utility bill without cutting your usage”.
Thank you Anna so much! I have only had my Facebook page for about 2 months or so and I was shocked to see so many people liking my Facebook page. I didn’t know what happened until I read your post. Thank you so very much for your generosity for other work at home websites. You are truly a gem. Thank you Miranda for liking my facebook page and for getting this discussion started. Very, very helpful. I am learning so much from the both of you. I love your work and I am a loyal follower of everyone’s work at home blogs. Thank you again.

9.  Since you do have control of your schedule, be involved in your child’s educational experience.  Notice I didn’t simply say “education.”  For some of us, this might mean homeschooling.  For others, it means something entirely different.  If your kids are in traditional school, get involved with their whole experience at school.  Ask them questions about their day, their favorite parts, the parts that stunk.  What did they learn–what did they looove to learn about?  How are their friends, what’s going on with them? It’s not about being nosy or controlling, it’s about quiet guidance and purposeful moments.

Thusly armed with these daycare “tuition” costs, Mr. FW and I began scheming alternatives. We considered all of the following: should we move to where our families are to avail ourselves of free daycare? That didn’t make sense to us since we knew we wanted to end up in Vermont and, we didn’t think it’d be fair to suddenly saddle our parents with their granddaughter’s care. Should we just suck it up and pay? You can guess how we felt about that option. Or should one of us stay home and chart a new path? Being people who already intended to do just such a thing, this last option felt the most natural and tenable.

The FlexJobs database lists thousands of work-at-home jobs that offer stay-at-home moms the ability to work comfortably from a home office. And according to the FlexJobs survey of working parents in 2017, the ability to work flexibly is one of the top contributors to a healthy work-life balance. Below we’ve got 10 great work-at-home jobs for stay-at-home moms, along with their median annual salary from PayScale.
No list of work from home blogs would be complete without mentioning The Work at Home Woman. If you have spent any time researching home-based jobs, chances are, you already know Holly Hanna as the award-winning founder of this popular blog. Geared towards women who want to balance life, family, careers and everything in between on their own terms, you can find plenty of no-nonsense advice on being successful in your life’s endeavors.
Sheryl Sandberg challenges women to think about their careers as jungle gyms instead of ladders: “Ladders are limiting. Jungle gyms offer more creative exploration. There are many ways to get to the top of a jungle gym.” Today, that jungle gym is expansive, and it can be accessed from anywhere. Because of the Internet, both information and resources are more readily available. Additionally, more work-from-home jobs are generated by the development of personal blogs, online shops such as Etsy, and websites such as The Work at Home Woman and PowerToFly. These online opportunities make it possible for more women to opt in, and as more women sit on the floor of their children’s bedroom awash in the light of a laptop while their kids build with Legos, a cultural shift takes place—a shift that I experience every day.
I think we should focus on making it easier for parents to return to the workforce after a hiatus. I’m pretty sure I haven’t gotten dumber or less skilled in my years off ????, but we do still have that perception of stay at home moms being unskilled! Addressing discriminatory hiring practices as part of the wage gap would help increase families’ abilities to make a choice that works for them.
We don’t have kids, but my two siblings have 2-3 children each and they have different solutions – a frugal one and a not so frugal one. Sister 1 bought a rather cheap home next to my mom out in the country so she watches the two boys 2-3 times a week at her house (one is not in school yet) while she goes to work. She also is a single parent. Sister 2 lives in a major city and has a nanny come three days a week for 12 hour days to watch two kids (costing $40k/year). They have super intense jobs with long hours. Now that she has a third baby, her nanny quit and they are having a hard time finding a (legal) nanny who wants to watch three kids for 10 hours a day. Maternity leave is over, they are in the middle of paternity leave, so they will figure it out soon hopefully! One staying home will not work due to the amount of student loans and mortgage they have. Different solutions for different people even in the same family. There there’s me; no kids, retiring early.
6. Typing or data entry—You are often required to provide a lot of personal information up front, along with a payment for a starter package. What you get is an affiliate advertising package that requires you to spend time and money creating online ads. Then you will supposedly receive a commission every time someone clicks on your ads and signs up or makes a purchase. Note that there are real typing jobs for stay-at-home moms, but they would typically require interviews and typing-skills testing.
