When we found out we were expecting #5, the hubs and I decided that we would both stay home for a year. Years and years of frugal choices are really what gave us that freedom. It can be easy to dismiss small frugal choices but they snow ball into investments and then streams of passive income. I think it’s great when women can find the balance that is right for them. With enough time with the kids and enough time to devote to tangible things (paid or not). I love being able to do one thing each day that doesn’t become “undone” by the next day. It’s not that I mind the dishes and laundry, but goodness gracious: with 5 kids it is like weeding a one acre garden!
1. Envelope stuffing—You are asked to send in money to receive a starter kit and told that you will be paid for every envelope that you stuff and send. What you end up receiving is a package telling you how to advertise the scam. The goal is that you advertise the same envelope-stuffing scheme to others and allegedly get a kickback for every person who responds to your ads and signs up.

Women who don’t work in fields with high earning potential and cannot afford full-time child care are often forced to craft their own work lifestyles at home. Women are more likely to leave the workforce to care for children than men, according to a 2016 survey by the Department of Labor. When asked, 43 percent of women with children under the age of five said they passed up a promotion or asked for reduced responsibilities at work to care for a family member. Some women then work from home.A 2017 Gallup poll found that 43 percent of employed Americans spend some time working remotely, a rise over previous years.
Work at Home Mom Revolution posts regularly about jobs that moms can do from home. Lisa Mills started the site in 2007 to help moms find the best resources out there. From freelance writing, to flex work to product ad service companies your can run form your home, Lisa keep moms updated on a variety of options. Lisa recently wrote  and published an ebook, which is available on Amazon.com, about starting a general transcription career from home. called Jump-Start Your Work at Home General Transcription Career: The Fast and Easy Way to Get Started!.  It’s filled with the tips and tricks she’s  learned (often the hard way) over her eight-plus year career in general transcription. Lisa herself is a work from home mom. She says “I’ve been working at home since I got my first computer back in the ’90s.  I’ve done a little bit of everything to make money from home, including selling on eBay, running an online used bookstore at Amazon.com, day trading stocks online, freelance writing, and publishing websites.”
I don’t use scheduling and time blocking. Instead, I follow Daily Routines. For example, every Monday we have one set of tasks, while Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday’s tasks look completely different. When I try to make my life more scheduled, I get agitated! Tasks always seem to take way longer than I always think they will. Kids make messes, they’re hungry, they poop…the schedule is always messed up. People who can keep a tight time block schedule are superheroes. How they do it literally boggles my MIND!

Your blog is very inspiring! Am currently in EBA 3.0 and I need for this to work. LOL! I been a SAHM for years and recently became a school bus driver to earn money and the schedule works around the kids for the most part. But the Hubby’s schedule is changing in Jan. and I have to make this work. Thanks so much all the freebies and inspiring stories.

Have a support system. You may be a stay-at-home mom with a job, but that doesn't mean you won't need occasional childcare. You might have a partner, grandparent, or another family member who can step in and help when he or she is not working. You might have another mom that you can swap play dates with. Or you may need to get a casual babysitter, even if it is a teenager who can come over after school or on weekends.
It's important to line up your day carefully, with set "office" hours. How many hours do you hope to work that day? When will you return calls? What can you accomplish while your son or daughter is coloring in the next room? You'll get more done if you work smarter, not harder, says Christine Durst, a mom of two in Woodstock, Connecticut, and cofounder of ratracerebellion.com, a site that helps people find work-at-home jobs. That said, one of the best benefits of working at home is flexibility, especially if you are your own boss. If your son or daughter is fussing during your office hours and it's a beautiful day, it's okay to push assignments aside and go to the park. You can catch up on work later when your cutie has settled down.
In 2016, only 19 percent of men did housework — such as cleaning or doing laundry — compared to 49 percent of women, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Additionally, 68 percent of women did food preparation and/or cleanup compared to 42 percent of men. This doesn’t even include the invisible mental load and emotional labor women are bogged down with daily:  keeping track of doctor appointments, hiring out to fix things in the home, playdate schedules, family vacation planning, etc.

6. Think about the following: What are your skills? Why do you want/need to go back to work? How much time can you give to work? What are your cash flow needs? Emotional needs? It's taken me over 20 years of moving in and out of the workforce, and I'm happy to say my confidence is coming back. I have a terrific relationship with my now grown children and feel grateful that they are turning into the adults I hoped they would be. I'll never know what would have happened had I taken a different path but I have no regrets. Each decision I made and hurdle I overcame brought me here. I love what I do and I now know that the experience I had has lead me to help other women navigate a smoother path.
If you love to find bargains and can’t get enough of the clearance aisles, then selling on Amazon may be for you! Jessica from TheSellingFamily.com was able to take her love of finding deals and turn it into a 6-figure side hustle in just 1 year. You can grab a free 7 day email course right here and she will explain everything you need to know about how it all works and help you decide if it’s the right choice for you. (I think this is one of the EASIEST jobs stay at home moms can do with no experience!)
This is a great list! Some of these I have never thought of for the stay at home moms (and stay at home dads 😉 ) out there. I have done a lot of research on different ways to make some income and I am always amazed at the ideas I still routinely find. You mentioned working for Amazon. I know Amazon has a platform that offers some micro jobs you can do as well. They pay small amounts but if you do a lot they can add up! I also like Uber! But only for driving during the day. I wouldn’t suggest driving for Uber at night.
If her kids ever felt like they had nothing to do, she'd tell them to choose a slip of paper from the dish. Some instructed them to build the tallest Lego tower, others told them to clean their room. When they got older, she'd include them in her work by asking them to put away files. "You need to have an open-door policy and involve them in any capacity they can handle," she says.

Stay at home, homeschooling mom of 4. My husband does a great job of supporting our family but I’ve become an independent distributor for 2 or 3 companies that we just love their products! My favorite for a home business would probably be Lilla Rose since the products are something almost any woman/girl can use and the company support is so great. – Tyra Whitlow at Lilla Rose

Another tactic to adopt when you're in business mode? Dress the part. Aimee Samuelson, a Portland, Oregon, mom of two, who runs a marketing business out of a converted garage, dresses as if she's going into an office when she's on the job. She knows if she works in her pj's she won't concentrate as well and might get distracted by household tasks between conference calls. Not everyone needs a suit on to feel more professional -- sometimes taking a shower and putting on makeup and a clean outfit will do the trick.
If you're ready to get serious about making money from home, now's the time to get started! Over the course of my work at home career, I've found numerous ways to bring in extra cash and save money, as well as a number of home business opportunities that can be started on a budget. This is a list of those resources. I'll continue to add to this list. Explore … Read More
I think we should focus on making it easier for parents to return to the workforce after a hiatus. I’m pretty sure I haven’t gotten dumber or less skilled in my years off ????, but we do still have that perception of stay at home moms being unskilled! Addressing discriminatory hiring practices as part of the wage gap would help increase families’ abilities to make a choice that works for them.

I am a stay at home mom and I love this list. Mommas need to encourage each other. It’s a tough world we live in! I run my own blog over at iamcapturingthemoment.com and make income off of that. Not a lot, but a little. Im also a Pampered Chef consultant (if you don’t know what that is, feel free to contact me!), and I hand see children blankets and other fun items with my mom in our business called Bumblebees and Butterflies. I earn enough to help with bills and to buy extra goodies for my two daughters. :)

Online reseller—Moms who are savvy at picking out good deals can often earn money by starting online resale businesses. It could be a great way for you to create your own online job. It can be as simple as buying items at a discount and then reselling them on websites like Amazon or eBay. Just make sure that you are adhering to tax laws and properly reporting your income.
Akerson: A completely remote team comes with many benefits, the first of which is we can pull talent from anywhere in the country, and when jobs are posted, our pool of qualified applicants is always overflowing. Another benefit is that worktime is maximized – no commute means more productive working time. Employees LOVE the flexibility of scheduling their working hours around what works best for them and their family. We have a couple of weekly meetings, but otherwise employees are free to work whenever they want. This can mean late nights or early mornings for moms with very small children, but the benefit is truly work-life balance. The biggest benefit is that employees get to be part of a company whose mission they believe in, without worrying that they’re missing out on their children’s lives.
Less expensive options include help from friends, family and neighbors, hiring a mother's helper (such as a high school senior) and swapping playdates with other working parents. Michelle, a work-from-home mom from London, U.K., has an arrangement with her retired neighbor. "She looks after my kids for a couple of hours after school, twice a week, and in return I do her grocery shopping and wash her car," she tells SheKnows. "It works for both of us, and a lovely bonus is that she and my kids have developed a really great relationship."
Have you ever heard of an actuary? In the past, it was used to describe a person who analyzes statistics in order to calculate risks and premiums for insurance companies. However, the job title has expanded to include many more industries that can benefit from data mining and economic forecasting. If you have a degree in mathematics, finance or statistics, look into getting your license through Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) or Society of Actuaries (SOA).
What’s great about Work at Home Mom Revolution is the approach Lisa Mills takes to sharing work from home job leads. As a work from home mom since the 90s, she truly understands the desire many parents have to earn an income while being there for their children. To help them reach their goals, she shares a variety of daily job leads. Currently working as a transcriptionist, Lisa recently wrote an ebook detailing how others can also launch a successful home-based transcription career – one of many legitimate remote job opportunities you can find when you stop by Work at Home Mom Revolution!
This job might have not been your first thought for a stay-at home job, but it is definitely an option. To make this job work as a stay-at-home mom, you could only do appointments when your kids are at school, work as a virtual wedding planner assistant, and/or only offer day-of services. You can earn anywhere from $75-200 an hour. Most wedding planners require a minimum of three-hours with each booking.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor, approximately 21% of employees work from home on an average day. I’m sure a significant proportion of these people are mothers who are taking care of their children simultaneously. It can be hard to juggle so many responsibilities, but the key to making it work is finding a job with the perfect fit – one that has built-in flexibility, reasonable compensation and engages all of your greatest strengths.
"The idea of having her commute to our home office to do customer service didn't make sense," Akerson said. "It was sort of accidental that we hired a parent. It was a blessing to both of us that it was part-time though. Since the company was just starting out, we didn’t have the revenue to justify much in payroll yet, and as a mother of three, she did not want full-time work."
3. Online surveys—You can make some cash taking online surveys, and some people swear by it as easy work. But it can be very low pay when you consider the amount of time that you have to put into it. Some survey takers report making less than a dollar per hour. Before you commit to anything, make sure you read the company's privacy statements and disclaimers and conduct online research about them. Be especially cautious if you cannot find any information or reviews about them. It means that they may be an unscrupulous company that changes names often. You also want to make sure that you never pay any money in order to get started.

[…] 50+ Legitimate Work From Home Job Opportunities  I have known people who have tried to find jobs they can do in their free time from home and it is really hard to find a work at home job that isn’t a scam.  Alexa from singlemomsincome.com has a list of actual things you can do to earn a little extra money.  The one tip I have is that there is no job called “work from home”  If that is the title of the classified ad then keep moving because that isn’t a real job listing. Working from home, as a stay at home mom isn’t glamorous or easy. But that’s ok because, as a mom, it’s not about being able to drop everything and jump on a plane to Tahiti. It’s about being able to drop everything because your kid is sick, and you’re the mom and you want to be there for him. No boss ever gonna tell me I need to be at some meeting when what I need to be is cuddling my fever-y baby.

I used to think achieving work/life balance is possible if I try hard enough. Like many of you, I have my mom goals and working woman goals. Some of you may know my past struggles with postpartum depression. Those dark days are behind me yet I still fall into my old habits of trying to do too much. It’s a lifelong battle really, something that I’m constantly trying to work on.

Their training is done online and is self-paced. You could finish the program in 4 months but 6 months is probably more realistic. They do however give you up to a year to get it all done. Their program is approved by the American Health Information Management Association and the American Academy of Professional Coders. They work with companies such as CIOX Health, Lexicode, OS2-HCS, TrustHCS, Inovalon, Mckesson that hire their grads to work from home right out of the program.

6. When you apply to jobs, focus on your skills and abilities and what you can offer the company. Take time to reconnect with your professional persona, so that you’re a “woman returning to work” instead of a “mom returning to work.” Translate your time as a mom into skills that employers want like time management, organization, leadership, decision making, and management. Your professional self is the one that should be portrayed to employers, both in your application materials and during the interview process, but it can be difficult to locate and dust off the professional-you, when the parent-you has been in charge for so long. Take some time to return to your professional self.
When I got pregnant with my daughter Lilly five years ago, I was determined to override the morning sickness and prove those colleagues who assumed I'd take it easy wrong. I arrived early and stayed far later than most, all the while hugging the porcelain throne. In my second trimester, I felt invincible—I stayed at the office even later and went out for mocktail margaritas with the rest of the crew, who slammed shots. But by my third trimester, I was done. I was tired, bloated and swollen, and work-from-home motherhood was looking really good.
Yes! I’m a stay-at-home mom and started working as a consultant for Usborne Books in January — loving it! I do parties with friends online literally while putting my son to bed, and I did an amazing reading incentive program in my daughter’s school which involved one brief meeting a friend watched my kids during and all the rest was done after they were in bed. Perfect for me right now! usbornebookstores.com
