In the eyes of the law, an independent contractor differs from an employee in that an independent contractor has the freedom to act autonomously to get a job done as they see fit — as long as you meet the contract requirements. As an independent contractor you’re not entitled to benefits like paid time off or health insurance. You will also be responsible for paying taxes on your earnings.

Hey Kelly! The one year of teaching experience can be any kind of teaching experience (not just in a traditional school setting). They just want to make sure you’ve worked with children before. Any daycare experience, teaching Sunday school, and yes- as a sign language interpreter (how cool is that?!). I actually think you’d be a fantastic fit for this job because using the hands and facial expressions are a key element to keeping ESL students engaged. Feel free to comment back here or email me at [email protected] if you have any more questions. This job is so much fun and I’m happy to help 🙂 -Autumn
I AM A QUALIFIED PRIMARY TEACHER AND NEEDED SOMETHING TO TAKE MY HOURS OF WORK DOWN AS I FIND TERM TIME HOURS AND DEMANDS QUITE CHALLENGING. I LOOKED AT SEVERAL DIRECT SELLING OPPORTUNITIES AND FOUND ONE THAT IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. I EARN AS MUCH AS I CHOOSE TO PUT IN THE WORK FOR, AND THERE IS A FANTASTIC SUPPORT NETWORK. IT WAS SOMETHING I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER DO AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.
I am a stay at home Mom with a part-time work from home job. For the past 3 years, I have had the blessing of being the secretary and office manager for a small Hydrovacing company. I have been able to do all the work from home until this past summer. It’s had it challenging times, but I’ve learned so much and have knowledge on how to start your own business because of it. Now, our youngest, age 3, goes with me 3 days a week for a few hours. We have 4 children- 16, 14, 7 and 3. I have also sold things on local sales sites for extra income. I have been at home since our oldest was born. We’ve made sacrifices, but didn’t see them as sacrifices. It was choices to support our decision to have me at home. We made that decision before we married almost 23 years ago. And, we are both thankful and blessed by it.
I’m going to be the primary caregiver for our child (arriving in 10 weeks, give or take!) but also work part-time mostly from home for my business. I’m happy to have you as a model, a few months ahead of me! I do plan to travel for speaking engagements for some of my income when the baby is > 12 weeks old, which will necessitate occasional babysitters, and it remains to be seen whether I’ll view that as a welcome or unwelcome break from our child.
Single Moms Income was the very first blog I turned to and gave me the push to leave my day job by starting a blog. When I finally made the move and started my blog I followed the lead of other bloggers that said I needed to guest post. Alexa was awesome enough to allow me to provide my first guest post “How to save on your utility bill without cutting your usage”.
You’ll also want to establish some space in the house to organize your work activities. Do you have an office, or a desk, or even a corner of the kitchen where you could keep your computer and some paperwork? It’s important to be able to define your space so that you can make a clean separation between your “work-work” and the rest of your life at home. Plus, you don’t want to run the risk of losing important documents.

If you can type well and have basic computer skills, you may enjoy being a work from home transcriptionist. Transcribe Me is an online company that offers moms a chance to make money transcribing audio files. These files are generally short in length and are required to be converted into text by typing out what is being said on them.  For other work from home transcription opportunities, check out this post.

Akerson: Yes, absolutely! Work-from-home-moms are incredible – even if your target customers aren’t mothers. They know how to maximize their time, because they are moms, and know what a resource time is. Many are also willing to work for less than you would pay if hiring full-time, simply because they want the flexibility of still putting their family first. And you don’t have to pay for a full-time role if what you need is less than that. You also don’t have to worry about employees taking sick time to stay home and care for sick kiddos, as they’re already working from home. Work-from-home-moms are amazing.
I created my own niche after my divorce last year by learning Google Adwords and now handle my own accounts and do contract work for a local digital marketing agency. I set up accounts and rehab / optimize existing ones. Adwords is a platform built for the small solo operator AND big corporations, so there is a lot within the dashboard to sort & sift through. I basically assist small local service businesses get set up right so they don’t continue to lose money. Plus I offer interactive lessons (not something many people do out there at all). Google Adwords is huge and growing (partly how Google makes its BILLIONS). If you love data analysis, marketing in general, writing on point & creative ad copy, and simply LEARNING, the opportunities are there for TRUE self-starters. You also have to have super attention to detail with spelling, etc. I don’t have a college degree, mind you, but was hungry to learn it all. I am at heart a teacher and helper (and have always been geared towards marketing). I have owned my own little businesses as a house cleaner and professional organizer and then segued into Adwords (after building my own cleaning & organizing campaigns). Did so after I had my 2nd boy in 10/2015 and one in K at the time. I had to find a way to work from home because the chaos of meeting the school bus and dropping off and picking up at the sitter was getting a little crazy. 🙂 I recommend looking into Adwords. You can even get certified. That is my next goal.
One could easily argue that I spend way too much money at Starbucks. And while I would agree, I’ve come to accept that it’s a part of my routine that has helped me build my business. I learned this from my cousin whom I greatly admire. She’s a very successful work-at-home mom and after dropping the kids off at pre-school in the morning she would swing through Starbucks as a ritual that marked the transition from being mom, to being at work. Your ritual doesn’t need to include Starbucks, it could be a mug of tea, changing clothes, turning on music, etc. The key is to find something that helps your transition from “home time” to “work time” during naps.

Life, parenting, and work are full of the unexpected. The upside is you can start building a few positive habits now to make things easier when the unexpected happens. I call these my anchor habits because they keep my life steady and stable even when things get rough. An anchor habit can be anything that helps create daily stability, like prepping for the mornings the night before to make getting to school a little easier, having a go-to menu of super simple dinners, or taking 20 minutes for yourself every day. These habits become the foundation of a smoother life all around.
I am a 36 year old single mom of a 5 year old son I have custody of and 2 daughters who are 13 and 11 that I get most weekends. I live with and care for my disabled mother in a wheelchair, and have since 2011, since I care for her and my son it’s very hard to get a job outside the home. My income is very limited and I have got scammed a lot of times on the WAH jobs that charge you a fee and don’t really work. If anyone can give me info on REAL and legitimate home jobs that do not charge a fee please email me info and help me out. cindy0579@yahoo.com

14.  Speaking of weekends, I know there’s a million birthday parties, church functions, friends to hang with, etc.  Pick one or two (at the most) outings & give your family time to recover from the week & for the week ahead.  I know this is a hard one, but stick to it.  You all need that downtime together–give it a whirl a couple of weekends and see how it feels.

I’ve also begun outsourcing more technical/design parts of my business because it takes me a ridiculously long time to figure out what I’m doing. The saved time and frustrations is well worth the money. Another part of my balance overhaul was to hire a housecleaner. The time and more importantly, annoyance that was relieved by doing this has been significant. I no longer beg my husband to help me and I don’t feel guilty when I haven’t cleaned the bathroom in weeks.
This is a very impressive and informative list. I have always looked up to women bloggers who manages to enjoy their time being a mother at home while fulfilling a passion and creating a successful career even at home. This is why I have decided to get more details via CompareBroadband when it comes to internet services to be able to fulfill my dreams of becoming a WAHM as well. I love to express myself and blog at the same time. Hopefully I can contribute something significant to the online world while generating income as well.
3. Office Space: Your preschooler’s art table will not make a suitable desk for your laptop, and the bean bag chair in the playroom probably isn’t the best place to set up shop. Make sure your home has some sort of space to designate as your “office.” If not, get creative and figure out a way to turn an already-in-use room (such as the laundry room or the guest bedroom) into your work-from-home space.

Around this time, Blake also dropped her morning nap. I was holding on to it as long as I could. Although we still do “quiet rest time” most mornings I can no longer count on that hour and a half in the morning to get caught up on emails and ready for the day. So, as a result, I’ve added early morning work hours to the routine. A few days a week I get up at 4:45 and head to Starbucks. It may sound crazy but I’m actually kind of loving it… (more on this soon).

PPD (Post Partum Depression) Alert. Went to do my taxes today, accountant says the person we have in the office is not doing things correctly, we have to 'hire' someone to handle accounts receivables.  We owe taxes, which is normal for us but not when I have PPD, she wants a bunch of reports from our quickbooks.  When we left I wanted to cry.  I feel like the whole world is on my shoulders, I feel like I am in the middle of a deep pool on my tiptoes and I am slowly drowning. and this can't be
